History

Drs. Getchell, Batt, and Swanson at the 80 Main St. office in 2007.

Our practice was founded in 1951 by Dr. L. Forbes Getchell. After serving his country in WWII, Dr. Getchell completed his dental education at NYU and set up a practice on the second floor of 84 Main Street, above what is now Crackskull's Coffee and Books. The office moved next door in 1955 to 80 Main Street, a building which initially housed The Branscomb Tavern. This inn served as a stagecoach stop dating to 1832, and later was used as a shoe shop, remnant store and a physician's office. Retiring in 1986, Dr. Getchell sold his business to Dr. Christopher Batt, who expanded the practice, adding many improvements over the years before transitioning to Dr. Nate Swanson. In 2014, Dr. Swanson moved Newmarket Dental to its current location, allowing for technical modernization, improved disability access, and an updated design. Many current patients have been receiving their dental care here for 50 years or more!
